Volunteer
Volunteers at MATS fulfill many roles, some of which are described below. If you would like to explore volunteering, please call 603.924.5033, leave a message and your call will be returned.
Clerical/Administrative - Help with mailings and the newsletter. Housekeeping: When guests leave the shelter, there is a need for housekeeping tasks to clean or restock household items from our supplies, with an occasional need for minor carpentry and painting.
Transportation: Guests may need transportation to meetings, appointments, work or school. Moving: At times, it is necessary to move furniture in and out of units. Got a truck or a van? We may need your help.
Special Events: MATS sometimes sponsors special events and help coordinating those events may be needed. Presentations: There is an outreach/education committee that speaks to organizations in the community about the issues of homelessness.
Research and Writing: For the newsletter, newspaper and other publications.
Mentoring: There is a "mentor" program in which each guest may elect to have a volunteer mentor who acts as friend, source of support, and/or advocate. Volunteers may serve in this capacity after a thorough orientation/training program.
Attend Committee Meetings: Volunteers are encouraged to attend Board Committee Meetings to learn about the organization and offer fresh insights based on their knowledge and experience in a particular area.
Become a Board Member: As board members retire or rotate off the Board, new Board members are needed and are often drawn from the pool of interested volunteers.
The Mission of MATS is to provide temporary housing, support and referral services to homeless persons; to educate our community on issues of homelessness; and to advocate for possible solutions.
