Successes

MATS provides a safe, humane environment for homeless families and individuals as they make the transition back to permanent housing. We are very proud of our many success stories as people have gone from being homeless back to a life of self-sufficiency.

In one family, a single mother has provided an excellent role model while raising her children: her career involved doing something she loves which she could do as a stay-at-home mom. Recently the family was able to leave apartment living when Mom purchased her own home.

A young family expecting their first child came to MATS after staying with a relative was no longer a good situation. Since coming to the shelter, the young man has found a good job, the baby was born in good health and they have been able to save enough money to move into their own aparment.

A third success story involves a single father who has had many ups and downs in his life. After his home burned to the ground, his wife walked our, leaving the care for their 3 children to him. The insurance company did not offer enough money to fully rebuild the house, and his van needed many repairs to make it safe for the family. They lived temporarily in an old mobil home that became infested with rodents. Local citizens pulled together to renovate the house, and the family came to MATS while the work was being completed -- at no expense to the family! The family moved home just before Christmas, the father located a new job, and MATS helped him find a safe vehicle through the kindness of J&L Auto in Keene.

The Mission of MATS is to provide transitional housing, support and referral services to people who are homeless; to educate our community on issues of homelessness; and to advocate for solutions.
