Successes

MATS provides a safe, humane environment for homeless families and individuals as they make the transition to permanent housing. We are very proud of our many success stories as people have gone from being homeless back to a life of self-sufficiency.

In one family, a single mother has provided an excellent role model while raising her children: her career involved doing something she loves, and recently she was able to leave apartment living and buy a home for the family.

For another family now enjoying their own apartment, the enterprising mother has started her own business as a means to help suport her family and pay off college loans.

A third success story involves a single woman who has had many ups and downs in her life. As she put it, she was very grateful that one of the downs was while she lived in the Monadnock region, and that she learned of MATS. While a guest in our shelter, she was able to enter a Red Cross program to earn a certificate to become a licensed nursing assistant. "I had no experience in the nursing field...but I'm a compassionate person; that's all I had to offer." Now on her own and license in hand, this energetic woman has taken up the hobby of refinishing furniture in her spare time, and hopes one day to earn a college degree.

The Mission of MATS is to provide temporary housing, support and referral services to homeless persons; to educate our community on issues of homelessness; and to advocate for possible solutions.
